Project Ex-S stage 1 complete!

September 11, 2011 at 2:49 pm

This took longer than I expected but finally, stage 1 S-Gundam 3D model is finally complete!¬† I’m quite happy with the¬†overall result. I paid extra attention to detail and reproduced all the logo’s in illustrator. This time I tried not to stray away too much from the original design like what alot of people tend to do, but instead I tried to accurately remodel the design from the individual parts to the textures. I want it to stay true to Hajime Katoki’s vision as much as possible.
I present you the mighty S-Gundam! Click on images for full-size.

EX-s S-gundam 3D model

Probably one of my favourite gundams of all time. What I love about S-gundam the most is how realistic the design is. Unlike modern gundams such as Exia and Freedom that uses a form of unique energy source such as the Solar Reactor and N-Jammer canceller respectively, S-Gundam uses traditional rocket boosters and fuel. It’s also highly customisable with the ability to upgrade it’s armour and weapons into what would then be known as the Ex-S Gundam.
This project took roughly 2 months but ‘stage 2: Ex-S Gundam’ should be the easiest out of the 3 stages as it’s only some additional parts. ‘Stage 3: Deepstriker’ would be the hardest due to the sheer amount of details but it should be fun!.
I will take a short break now as it has been rather mentally draining. Gundam modelling isn’t easy when you have a Full-time job and a girlfriend to take care of. But I look forward to begin my next journey soon and turn the S-gundam into it’s rightful Ex-S form. I hope to improve my 3D skills even further and create some much more detailed illustrations =)

S-gundam 3D model 90% complete

August 29, 2011 at 7:06 pm

Really exciting to announce that project 3D S-gundam is finally almost done. I’ve been working extremely hard the past few weeks after taking a really long break and got so much done, so productive. I want this to look better than Alteisen, but all I can say for now is that I’m really happy with the results so far. No WIP teasers, you will see the final render when it is complete =)

Should be done in another week or so, so stay tuned!

Dai-2-Ji SRW OG Release date 29th Sept

June 1, 2011 at 8:52 pm

Bandai has finally announced the release date for OG2. Wow this is much earlier than I expected! Lots of pressure to complete Deep Striker by then haha. Will try my best but. Progress on S-gundam has been pretty good. It is roughly 16% complete now. On track for completion by the end of month =)

Also I have updated the countdown for OG2 on the bottom right column. This can serve as a reminder for the excitement of the release and also the deadline for Deep Striker.

The next 3D gundam: EX-S

May 25, 2011 at 9:42 pm

My next gundam 3D model will be the EX-S. Isn’t she cute? Wish I really could model her though =P.

This one is really gona be a challenge. It’s actually much more complicated than Alteisen. Just the boosters have like a million parts. I’ll try my best to replicate it and make it look as detailed as possible! due to the shear amounts of details, I’ll be releasing this in 3 stages:

Stage 1: S gundam

Stage 2: EX-S gundam (full armour)

Stage 3: PLAN 303E Deepstriker

Development has begun. I hope to have the S gundam finished 2 months from today and Deepstriker before the release of OG2. So be sure to come back then!

The next major 3D Gundam Project

May 17, 2011 at 8:05 pm

First of all, I’m sorry for the really quiet week. I’ve been busy, and no I wasn’t sleeping. It was my birthday =). I thought I would give myself a personal holiday and just do what I want to do, things that I wouldn’t consider very productive. I’ve been watching movies, playing games, listening to music etc. T’was a good break and thanks to all those who celebrated with me, especially my Bhibi.

But now play time is over. It’s back to business as usual. My gundam mind has agreed with my graphics mind in that we have chosen our Gundam for the next major 3D gundam development. I’m extremely excited about this. It will be the sequel to Alteisen. I’ve set my goals pretty high this time. Judging from what I accomplished with Alteisen, I believe I am ready to take it to the next level.

  • For this next gundam, I hope to optimize the polygon structures and by doing so, I hope to be able to increase the detail by 2 folds.
  • I hope to get much better at texturing and to do it properly this time. Using textures to increase details as well as material realism.
  • I hope to improve on my lighting rig with more advanced lighting placements and settings.

So the one question remains – What gundam is it going to be?

Why don’t you take a guess? The image below is the only hint I’m giving away. Should be pretty easy for gundam fans. But can you guess what gundam it is? =)

Answer to be revealed next week, when development officially commences!

Dai-2-Ji SRWZ and FF Distant Worlds

April 18, 2011 at 9:27 pm

It was such an eventful week I really don’t know where to start! SRWZ came out last thursday and I went to watch the much hyped Final Fantasy Distant Worlds Orchestra on the 15th.

I Have to begin with Final Fantasy (Sorry SRWZ!) because its not that it’s more awesome or anything, but SRWZ is still in progress I can elaborate that more in the future. Last friday I attended what could possibly be the best orchestra I’ll ever watch in my entire life. Final Fantasy finally came to sydney and performed at one of the most amazing halls in the world – The Sydney Opera House! Not only that but Nobuo Uematsu himself was there – That really made my day and as the music started playing I felt like I wanted to cry.

I really love the setlist as it began with my favourite song – To Zanarkand. Yeah no wonder I wanted to cry (but just to make it clear, I didn’t shed a single tear =)) Now I wouldn’t want blurry eyesight because I really can’t miss a second of all the exciting stuff happening on stage! As they played through each song, a large screen behind would display clips of various FMV’s and in-game clips. After Intermission a guest vocalist by the name of Kanon was called to stage to perform Suteki Da Ne. I didn’t know what to expect as I never heard of her before and in Japan there are alot of mediocre female vocalists, but as she sang the first few words she instantly won my heart. Her voice is soft/soothing and above all VERY powerful. So good that I thought she nailed Suteki Da Ne which is a really hard song to sing. I could go on and on about her voice but lets move on, there’s alot to cover and I have to play SRWZ right after writing this entry.

Another interesting song was the chocobo medley, this medley had the chocobo theme all the way from the first FF’s all the way to 14, very interesting to see the enhancements of graphics as it progressed through the different FF’s, I really enjoyed this song =). The last song for the ending credits was Terra’s theme and they took the 3D night scene from the intro to be used as the clip – I rekon Markuz wouldve gone crazy if he saw it…too bad he didnt get to go.

Last but not least it was time for encore, and was there a song which i have yet to mention? that’s correct, they saved the best for last (tho not my favourite) – One Winged Angel. I thought the crowd just went mad when they announced it because Nobuo was on stage too at that time. Arnie Roth (conductor) asked Nobuo out to sing the chorus, Nobuo’s responce was like “yeah sure thing… as if dudeeeee” hehe really funny guy! It was just a really fantastic way to end the night, they used the cloud vs sephiroth fight from advent children for the entire song which was really epic. I just really wanna thank Arnie and the sydney symphony Orchestra for delivery such a great performance, pretty much flawless and also the one and only Nobuo Uematsu living legend for writing these amazing songs =)

This was also my 4 year anniversary gift to my Bhibi. We enjoyed every second of it ^^

Shot taken from our seats just before it started

Now onto Dai-2-Ji SRWZ – OMG!! its soooooooo good!!!! 100x better than the previous SRW games on the PSP. Because this one was actually made for the psp! not just a dodgey direct port or anything like that. OMG Gurren Lagaan Giga Drill Breakerrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!! Just having Gurren Lagaan in the game makes this game one of my favourite SRW’s, he’s just so fun to use, so incredibly powerful and his moves just look soo good. I’m extremely impressed with the way they excecuted the Giga Drill Breaker, it looks very very similar to the anime, See below for a quick example..

Giga Drill breaker from the Anime

Giga Drill breaker from SRWZ (very crap video but best I could find)

So as you can see this is indeed a hell of a game! I think its time to get right back to it, keep you posted as I drill through all the enemies with my 500 ton drill.
